How is my test result sent?

The result of your COVID-19 test is sent to your email address. Please always check the spam folder in your email if you do not receive the result.

What does my COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test result mean?

If the result of your rapid antigen test is:

“Negative” means that no antigens against the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected in the analyzed sample;

“Positive” means that antigens against the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected in the analyzed sample;

“Inconclusive” that it is not possible to say whether or not SARS-CoV-2 antigens were detected in the analyzed sample, being neither negative nor positive.

What does my PCR COVID-19 test result mean?

If your test result is “Not Detected,” no copies of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (responsible for the COVID-19 disease) were found in the collected sample, which is typically considered a negative test.

If your test result is “Detected,” it means that we detected copies of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the collected sample, which is a positive result for the presence of this virus.

My test result is “detected” what should I do?

A “Detected” result indicates the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the collected sample. You must isolate yourself and contact the SNS24.

If you have performed the test after contacting the SNS24, you do not need to do anything. The tests carried out at the Centro de Diagnóstico Molecular are reported to the national SINAVE-LAB system and are accessible to the health delegate of your area of residence.

I had a “detected” result, but I have no symptoms. Is it possible?

COVID-19 diagnostic PCR tests are very sensitive and can detect minimal amounts of the genetic material of a virus, in this case, the SARS-CoV-2 virus. SARS-CoV-2 infection is sometimes asymptomatic; the infected person does not show symptoms throughout the disease. On the other hand, as it is sensitive, the PCR test can detect the presence of the virus a few days before the onset of symptoms.

I got an “inconclusive” result; what does it mean?

An “inconclusive” result means that it is not possible to say whether or not the virus is present in the analyzed sample. It´s impossible to say if the result is positive or negative. This result may be due to an ineffective sample collection, SARS-CoV-2 infection at a very early stage, or in the case of patients close to recovery.

I had an “inconclusive” result; what should I do?

If you have an inconclusive result, contact the laboratory via email imm-diagnosticocovid@medicina.ulisboa.pt as soon as possible, indicating the sample number visible in the result report.

However, be aware that if you have interrupted the collection or have not allowed a correct nasopharyngeal swab or saliva collection, the Centro de Diagnóstico Molecular does not guarantee a reliable result (detected/not detected); it is not responsible for such fact, nor for the repetition of the test if its result is inconclusive.

Does your Center communicate the results to the health authorities?

All test results performed at the Centro de Diagnóstico Molecular iMM are reported to the national SINAVE-LAB system and can be consulted by the health delegates.

The system issues a testing certificate that will later be available at the SNS24 application.
